This is a big L for Saudi Arabia and Savvy Games Group. Beyond dropping the ball on esports (which could have very well produced 100 billions of dollars in the Saudi economy) they're choosing evil.The games produced by Scopely often produce more wasted time than they do fun. It's sad to see that they are choosing to persist the bad trends of the mobile games market. This is why hardcore gamers don't game on mobile, they can smell the BS.You would think these big mobile publishers would look at games like Monument Valley or even Angry Birds as the gold standard. Instead, they choose to disempower players, manipulate them for their money, and fundamentally create waste.

As a part of the agreement, GameSquare is appointing the founders of FaZe Clan to lead the new merger.Richard "FaZe Banks" Bengtson will serve as CEO, Thomas "FaZe Temperrr" Oliveira as president, and Yousef "FaZe Apex" Abdelfattah as COO.In July 2022, FaZe Clan went public via SPAC with an initial valuation of $1 billion, which was subsequently revised down to approximately $725 million. OverActive Media just confirmed its exit from the Overwatch League in exchange for a $6M USD termination payment from Activision Blizzard.The esports org, which operated the Toronto Defiant team in the OWL, broke down the payment as net of around $666K for payments paid in advance by the League to Toronto Defiant (for a total payment of $5.34M).This puts OverActive Media’s cash position to over $10.8M USD and comes as the company looks to realign its strategic focus + prepare for the next phrase of Overwatch Esports.It will be interesting to see which other esports orgs also take up this offer, and it is yet to be seen what will happen to the players, staff, etc. related to Toronto Defiant as well, but it seems the org will return eventually.Follow #MoreMark for #Business content in #Gaming, #Esports, and #Creators!

What a monumental few months for G2 Esports. They started the week with their merger with Version1 giving the organization its entry into Call of Duty in North America. They just announced their entry into DOTA 2 with a partnership with Chinese stalwarts Invictus Gaming. This all is coming off the heels of them acquiring the VCT Ascension slot from The Guard. The interesting takeaway from all these moves is that G2 is entering all of these new ecosystems, but they aren't starting from scratch. They are taking over rosters or partnering with knowledgeable, reputable organizations that already compete at G2's standard. This appears to be their playbook on entering new competitive niches without having to ramp up infrastructure every time.
